Barry first discovered drama while training to be a teacher. He also discovered he enjoyed drama more than teaching. Whilst living in Brighton he joined the New Venture Theatre - initially backstage and then onstage, appearing in numerous plays. On moving to Horsham he joined the Horsham Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society (HAODS). In 2013 he adapted (and appeared as Mr Bennet in) a HAODS production of Pride and Prejudice. In 2014 he adapted, directed and appeared in a version of Sheridan's The Rivals which was awarded a NODA Accolade of Excellence. In Spring 2016 he adapted Dickens' The Chimes which became Lights & Bushels' second production. Barry's one-act play My Second Best Bed was premiered by Lights & Bushels in July 2016 and published by Stagescripts Ltd in 2018. (see here). Lights & Bushels' 2018 production was another of Barry's adaptations of a Sheridan play: A Trip to Scarborough. 2021 saw the premiere of his play A Woman's Life based on the novel by Guy de Maupassant.
